Chinese Language Minor
The ability to speak and read another language expands our range of
cultural competency and communication, but also enriches our
understanding of the world and our own culture.
Program Overview
The program introduces you to the Chinese language. You will practice in speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Chinese culture is integrated throughout the program. So why minor in Chinese?
- With 1.19 billion native speakers, it is the number one spoken language in the world. Learning Chinese allows you to communicate with 20% of the world's total population.

Coursework
Coursework covers all aspects of language and related cultures, including reading, writing, speaking, and listening.
Required courses for the Chinese language minor:
- CHI 202 - Intermediate Chinese II: Language and Culture
- CHI 301 - Advanced Intermediate Chinese I
- CHI 302 - Advanced Intermediate Chinese II
Complete the minor with 12 credits of elective courses such as
Practical Chinese, Classical Chinese, Chinese literature and culture,
and study abroad. Study abroad courses can count for up to but no more
than six credits.
